From Upland testing for our Pointers to water work with our Retrievers, Great Lakes Sport Dog Assn sets up scenarios that can help 'turn on' a new pup to challenging the seasoned hunter. Our tests are tailored to the canines ability level, yet urges the trainer and canine to increase its knowledge and ability in the field. All of our tests are formal tests judged by a "standard" set up by Great Lakes Sport Dog Assn and competition is voluntary. You are welcome to run our course as a training tool without being judged. Competing in our tests, however, earns your canine points towards titles that proves excellence in the sport. Due to popularity from last year, we will be presenting the Top Dog Award again for 2013!
Developed with less stringent requirements than other registries, and with the gundog in mind, our hunt tests are an excellent way to recognize issues in the field and adjust your training to overcome those issues. It is our hope at GLSDA to be a foundation or learning avenue for those that wish to enter a more 'professional' competition arena,or to develop a hunting companion to be proud of. Competitive events held by Great Lakes Sport Dog Assn are done so in a family-oriented, fun and relaxed atmosphere where competitions are to a standard, not between other canines. With three levels of competition; Novice, Intermediate, and Finished, all levels of training and handling are judged and awards are given to those that accomplish the requirements. As an Organization that appreciates the training and hard work involved in developing the Canine/Handler relationship, Great Lakes Sport Dog Assn is proud to recognize the Each class will be awarded the Top Dog Award to the canine that has earned the most points on Hunt Test scores in that class.
